Pakistani
Youth Independence Dinner at Parramatta Sydney
(Report by
Sumaira Hoda)

The Mauj Team
14th August 2008 marked the 61st year
of Independence for Pakistan. MAUJ Pakistani Students society celebrated a Youth
Dinner to mark the nation’s Independence. More than 200 Pakistani University and
school students as well as recent graduates attended the function held at
Parramatta Town Hall on Friday 15th August.
The party comprised of great cuisine, music and fun, which all guests enjoyed
very much. The party started at 8 pm with singing of the ‘Qaumi Tarana’ followed
by loud cheers among the audience, this moment only marked the unity present in
today’s Pakistani youth.
The night proceeded with great cuisine and music. Guests arrived dressed in
traditional Pakistani dress and prizes were distributed to the best-dressed male
and female guests. Pakistani music was played at the event to which some of the
guests danced the bhangra. Finally a delicious 2 tier chocolate cake, donated by
the Cake Merchant was cut to celebrate the 61st year of Independence.
Tremendous effort was put into decorating the town hall in Pakistani colours,
flags and balloons. Applause must be given to the team of MAUJ for organising
such a large and successful event and all guests at the party appreciated their
effort. The event was made possible due to the sponsorship and support provided
by ANZ bank, Bundu Khan Restaurant, Best and Less Travel, Australasia Forex
company, Regal Catering and the Cake Merchant.
The Society was formed in April 2007 and originates from the University of New
South Wales. Over the past year we've successfully recruited over 150 members.
MAUJ is a non-profit organisation and our main events till date are 23rd March
BBQ's, Bowling nights and last years Pakistan Independence Day at Bundu Khan
restaurant. All their events till date have been a great success and have
promoted culture and well being among Pakistani youth of Sydney.
